From April 27 to 29, 2026, the Second International Symposium on Pathways to Reduce the Need for Antimicrobials to Support Sustainable Livestock Transformation, organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), was held in Rongchang District, Chongqing, China. The event brought together more than 200 government officials, experts, industry leaders, and youth representatives from over 30 countries and regions.

Vice president Yu Lu attended the symposium on behalf of the International Poultry Council (IPC) and delivered remarks.

In her presentation, Ms. Yu highlighted IPC’s global efforts to reduce the use of antimicrobials across the poultry sector, covering:

  • IPC’s role and positioning within the global poultry value chain;
  • IPC’s roadmap and actions to promote responsible antimicrobial use;
  • IPC’s principles for the responsible use of antimicrobials;
  • Best practices for reducing the need for antibiotics in poultry production;

Yu Lu also participated in a panel discussion on “Good Alternatives” and moderated a roundtable session entitled “Unlocking Investment: Who Pays for Change and How?”. The discussion brought together representatives from FAO, the African Development Bank, the Government of Zambia, and other partners to explore pathways toward more sustainable livestock development.

In addition, on behalf of IPC, Yu Lu received FAO’s certificate recognizing IPC as a new member of the Reducing the Need for Antimicrobials on Farms (RENOFARM) initiative. The recognition further demonstrates IPC’s strong commitment to collaboration and responsible antimicrobial stewardship.
